Peacock Romps At East Bay
GIBSONTON, Fla. – Josh Peacock drove to victory during the opening night for the late model class at East Bay Raceway Park Saturday evening.
At the start of the late-model feature David Schmauss got a great start over Phillip Cobb, but the start was nullified as Dalton Myers spun and backed his car into the turn two wall.
When the green waved again for the complete restart Cobb was able lead the field into turn one with Schmauss right behind him.
On lap four Peacock was working his way forward while battling with Myers when Myers suddenly got sideways and made contact with Kyle Bronson. Bronson ran over the front of Myers’s car, sending Bronson onto his roof and out of the race.
Cobb led the field for the restart, but racing was slowed again for a spin on lap 13. Second-place Schmauss pitted moments later with a flat tire, moving Peacock up another position.
After several more cautions Peacock finally made his move, bypassing Cobb to take the lead for good. Cobb, John Koller, Doug Watson and Roger Crouse completed the top five.
Other race winners included Dennis Wilson Jr. (street stocks), Jeff Weaver (V8 warriors), Thomas Pratt (open-wheel modifieds) and Robert Gullet Sr. (four-cylinder bombers).
