Winter Flurry Continues At Atlanta
HAMPTON, Ga. – Racing returned to the quarter mile Thunder Ring for the second and third feature races of the 2013-2014 Winter Flurry season at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
With double features, competitors had an opportunity to make adjustments and improve from their first feature finish in the second race of the afternoon.
In the first combined Masters and Pro Legend feature, Doug Stevens of Williamson led from the drop of the green flag. William Plemons III of Locust Grove, who started second, could not catch Stevens in the combined feature. Don Chandler of Macon finished first in the Master’s division in the combined feature.
Steven also captured the checkered flag in the second combined Masters and Pro feature of the afternoon. A second lap pass by Mason Massey of Douglasville help propel him to a second place finish in the Pro division. Chander was again the top finisher in the Masters division in the combined feature and was the strongest driver in his respective division throughout the race.
Woodrow Mullis of Hoboken is the points leader in the Young Lions division as he earned his second and third wins of the Winter Flurry season. On the pole for both features, Mullis held off a hard charging Semi-Pro driver R.S.Senter of Oakwood throughout the race. Senter finished as the top Semi-Pro in the first feature.
In the second combined Young Lion and Semi-Pro feature, it was again Senter who put pressure on Mullis throughout the race after slipping past Taylor Jorgensen of Stockbridge on the sixth lap. Mullis did not waiver and held on for his second feature win of the day.
Chandler Smith of Talking Rock swept both the combined Bandits and Outlaws Bandolero features of the afternoon. Smith took a while to get going but was finally able to make a move and slide past Outlaw Ashton Winger of Fayetteville on the ninth lap of the first feature en route to the win. Winger was the top Outlaw finisher in the first feature.
In the second feature, Smith was the race leader from the drop of the green flag and collected his second win in the Bandits division in the Winter Flurry season. Winger again drove home with the top spot among Outlaw drivers in the second feature.
In a greatly expanded field from week one of Winter Flurry, the Beginner Bandits competed in a pair of spirited features. Hayden Swank of Woodstock took the checkered flag in both features. Ryan Howell of McDonough and JT O’Connor of Stockbridge pulled away for much of the second feature until they were involved in a crash on the final lap which opened the door for Swank to slide by and capture the checkered flag.
