Peterson Sweeps Deming
DEMING, Wash. — Jared Peterson put on one of the more memorable performances of 2012 with a clean sweep in the Hoosier Speedmart 600 division at Deming Speedway Friday night.
Other feature winners included Eric Drake, Austin Sheridan and Jesse Schlotfeldt.
In the 600 division, Peterson put a cap on one of the more entertaining features in recent memory. After winning his heat and setting quick time, Peterson quickly advanced from an outside row three starting spot to third behind Derek Torkelson and Spud Allen. Torkelson and Allen were nose to tail for the better part of 12 laps, as Spud looked for space to blast by Torkelson who was holding tough on the inside. Allen found that space on lap 21, slingshotting around the high side of turn four to take the point with four laps left. Peterson dove low underneath Derek shortly thereafter to move into the second spot, setting up a two car tango in the closing laps with Allen rapidly approaching traffic. When the slower cars came, Peterson struck, sliding his car into a narrow gap between two lappers entering turn one on the white flag lap. Allen chose low and it cost him, as the slower cars held him back, giving Peterson the edge on corner exit. Jared completed the move, blowing back down low entering three and closing the door for good en route to his second win in a row and fourth in the past six races. Allen was second and Torkelson third.
The high groove paid big dividends for Eric Drake in the 1200 division. Drake found speed with his right rear on the cushion in passing Tyson Cross on lap seven en route to taking the victory. Drake was followed by Liam Ryan and Cross in rounding out the podium. Ryan was quick time. Clennon Holloway and Cross won the heats.
Austin Sheridan led every lap of the 600 Restricted feature en route to back to back wins in that division. Sheridan held a steady lead till encountering lapped traffic, but a timely yellow opened up the track for him on lap 16, and on the restart, Sheridan streaked away in clean air to claim the victory over Kyle Mitchell and Jake Helsel. Helsel set quick time.
Jesse Schlotfeldt picked up his tenth feature win of 2012 on Friday night in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints. Jesse was joined on the podium by Bradley Parks and Lynden Lebedinski.
