IRWINDALE, Calif. — A near capacity crowd was on hand as Irwinale Events Center reopened for oval track racing Saturday night after a year in the dark after the track’s former operators abruptly filed for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy in early February of last year.

A near-capacity crowd was treated to a full night of great NASCAR short track racing that ran the gamut from the scrappy mini stocks to the superfast super late models.

“We were all very gratified by the great turn out last night,” said Jim Cohan, the track’s new President/CEO. “We knew that the drivers and the fans were out there, and we heard from both sides of the pit gates loud and clear. They all just could not wait for NASCAR racing to return to Irwindale. It was a party, a reunion, a family gathering … something that we could all feel … and it felt very good.”

Ryan Reed was the class of the field in the super late model class, beating Rip Michaels to the finish on the half-mile asphalt oval, with Toni McCray third.

Ryan Partridge outran Mike Johnson in the late model feature.

Ryan Bragdon won the 35-lap mini stock feature, beating Robby Homsby to the checkered flag. Zack Green won the super stock feature.
