SAN ANTONIO, Texas – After a successful grand-reopening in 2012 with the 11th running of OctoberFast, the venerable old, paved high-banked, half mile known as San Antonio Speedway kicked off its 2013 racing season on Friday.

The inaugural North Park Toyota Fiesta on Asphalt begins the four race season as the historic track comes back to life with several renovations over the winter.

Highlighted are the North Park Toyota Pro Late Models, along with the Modifieds, Trucks, Street Stocks, Tator Plumbing Chargers, Grand Stocks and Lone Star Legacies.

On-track action included practice throughout the day with qualifying in the Pro Late Models and Modified. The Trucks, Street Stocks, Chargers and Grand Stocks all ran heat races, with the finish determining tomorrows feature line ups. Lone Star Legacies will draw for starting position in their Saturday only show.

There were several casualties during practice: Brian Otts in his Modified tagging the wall, the trucks of Cary Stapp and Joey Jenkins both broke transmissions, Late Model Mike Reininger had a head gasket let go. Street Stock Levi Krauss lost the motor, while the Chargers of Wes Walker (driveshaft) and Sterling Taush had problems

Saturday has one more round of practice for each class beginning at noon, with the Lone Star Legacy cars getting two sessions before their 5:30 feature. Opening ceremonies begin at 6:00pm followed by feature races in all classes.

Young Kyle Sirizzotti, in the GT Sirizzotti Excavating, RTM Equipment, Tru-Clean, ABC Body, Ford powered, Port City Chassis, went out late and laid down the fastest time in Late Model qualifying for the Donnie Horelka Memorial 100.
