Trussel To Promote Central Arizona

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Jonah Trussel saw an opportunity at Central Arizona Speedway.

As a result, he’ll promote Saturday night race programs at both the Casa Grande oval and Arizona Speedway at ET Motopark, an hour to the north near Apache Junction, this season.

“Because there won’t be any scheduling conflicts, we’ll be able to have 24 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified point races between the two tracks,” said Trussel. “IMCA will crown track champions and pay separate point funds based on standings through their season, which ends in late September.

“We will race after that and pay a joint point fund between the two tracks based on those standings,” he continued.

Opening night at Casa Grande is Feb. 22. Idle for July and August, the former Central Arizona Raceway will host its IMCA championship night on Sept. 20.

Modified track points earned at Central Arizona Speedway and at Arizona Speedway apply in IMCA’s Larry Shaw Racing Western Region. Another sanctioned class, the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, are in future plans at both tracks.

Northern SportMods will be allowed to race this season with X Mods at Casa Grande at Apache Junction, although not for IMCA national or state points.

“We are working toward the Northern SportMod sanction in 2015,” Trussel said. “The X Mods already have a set of rules that is very similar to the Northern SportMods.”
