LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — Darren Miller passed Steve Francis with 10 laps to go to win his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature in the month of August as the series made its first appearance at Lawrenceburg Speedway.
Miller beat Francis by more than a half car length, with Jeep VanWormer, Scott James and Josh McGuire rounding out the top five on the recently reconfigured three-eighths-mile dirt track.
“I may just have to move down here by the Ohio River if this keeps up,” said Miller, who won at Florence (Ky.) Speedway two weeks earlier. “We went a little bit harder on tires than some of the others did and after that restart, we passed Jeep and I knew we had something for Francis and it all worked out well.”
Miller banked $7,000 while driving a Victory Circle Chassis built by fellow racer Billy Moyer.
The finish:
Darren Miller, Steve Francis, Jeep VanWormer, Scott James, Josh McGuire, Donnie Moran, Earl Pearson, Jr., Terry Casey, Brad Neat, Wayne Chinn, Steve Casebolt, Matt Miller, Dan Schlieper, Freddy Smith, Mike Marlar, Jerry Rice, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Justin Rattliff, Damon Eller, Eric Wells, Jesse Lay, John Mason, Bart Hartman, Victor Lee, Billy Drake.

BARDSTOWN, Ky. — Jimmy Owens held the key to ending Scott Bloomquist’s three-year win streak in the Bluegrass Classic at Bluegrass Speedway Saturday night.
Owens’ second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory of the season kept the huge crowd on its feet for a good part of the race as he picked up $10,000 for his third triumph at Bardstown.
Owens took the lead from Bloomquist on lap 29 and led the rest of the way. Bloomquist finished second, followed by Darren Miller, Earl Pearson, Jr. and Michael England.
Owens, who races as a teammate to Bloomquist, used lapped traffic to his advantage to grab the lead.
“We were able to capitalize in traffic,” Owens explained. “We all share information, and I knew if I got a couple of cars between me and Scott that would be big and that’s when the track became one lane.”
The finish:
Jimmy Owens, Scott Bloomquist, Darren Miller, Earl Pearson, Jr., Michael England, Bart Hartman, Jeep VanWormer, Jason Keltner, Brad Neat, Steve Casebolt, Tim Tungate, Terry Casey, Billy Drake, John Gill, Jordan Bland, Joey Kramer, Dustin Neat, Scott James, Justin Rattliff, Wayne Chinn, Johnny Wheeler, Aaron Hatton, Vic Hill, Mike Marlar, Kevin Claycomb.
