ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Steve Casebolt nursed a heavily smoking race car to victory lane in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Cresnos 50 on July 3 at Muskingum County Speedway.
Casebolt took over the lead for good on lap 31 and built enough of a gap to limp home to the $10,000-to-win feature.
Scott James finished second and was followed by Justin Ratliff in third and series point-leader Earl Pearson, Jr. in fourth.
“I think it was about seven or eight laps to go.  Something in the engine let go, and I was just a sitting duck,” said Casebolt, who celebrated his 29th birthday on July 4. “It was a good thing we had a good lead. We couldn't have gone an inch further.”
The finish:
Steve Casebolt, Scott James, Justin Ratliff, Earl Pearson, Jr., Bart Hartman, Larry Moran, Freddy Smith, Jason Montgomery, Brad Neat, Shane McLoughlin, Rick Aukland, Bobby Kitchen, Donnie Moran, Steve Shaver, Jared Hawkins, Eric Myers, Chad Hina, Norman Aronhalt, John Mason, Damon Eller, Tracy Fritter, terry English, Davey Johnson, Josh McGuire, Jeremy Miller.

Friday

TAZEWELL, Tenn. — Jimmy Owens had to withstand late challenges from Scott James and Scott Bloomquist to win Friday night’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race at Tazewell Speedway.
The record crowd that was in attendance saw Owens dominate for most of the race, holding a half-a-lap lead for a good portion of the $10,000-to-win event. But a late-race caution allowed James and Bloomquist to pressure Owens until the checkered flag.
“We just wanted to keep everyone behind us there at the end. I didn't want lapped traffic to play an effect on the finish, so I kind of slowed down a little and they caught up to me in a hurry,” Owens said.
It was Owens’s first Lucas LM victory of the season, while James finished second. Bloomquist, Brady Smith and Steve Casebolt rounded out the top five.
The finish:
Jimmy Owens, Scott James, Scott Bloomquist, Brady Smith, Steve Casebolt, Brandon Kinzer, Chris Madden, Vic Hill, Billy Ogle, Jr., Dan Schlieper, Justin Rattliff, Donnie Moran, Rick Rogers, Terry English, John Blankenship, Earl Pearson, Jr., Damon Eller, Steve Smith, Anthony White, Brad Hall, Ray Cook, Rodney Kiker, David Crabtree, Dale McDowell.

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series made its first visit to Volunteer Speedway on Saturday night for the running of the $10,000-to-win Pizza Plus/Rusty Wallace Automotive Group 60. While the series was making its first appearance at the track, Mooresburg, Tenn., native Scott Bloomquist is no stranger to victory lane at “The Gap,” which he considers his home track, and visited it once again.
Bloomquist, who started from the fifth spot after finishing second in the first heat race, passed Jimmy Owens for the lead on lap 34 and never looked back en route to the $10,000 payday.
“We had a really good car tonight,” said Bloomquist. “During the feature we could really run anywhere we needed to — up high or down on the bottom. It never gets old winning here at Volunteer Speedway. It just doesn’t get any better than having the opportunity to race before these local fans who have watched me race here in East Tennessee for so long.”
After starting in the 18th spot, Brady Smith finished second and was followed to the line by Brandon Kinzer in third, Billy Ogle, Jr. in fourth and Donnie Moran in fifth. Owens settled for sixth place. Pole-sitter Chris Madden was 10th.
The finish:
Scott Bloomquist, Brady Smith, Brandon Kinzer, Billy Ogle, Jr., Donnie Moran, Jimmy Owens, Ray Cook, Steve Casebolt, Justin Ratliff, Chris Madden, Brad Neat, Ricky Arms, Rick Rogers, Earl Pearson, Jr., Scott James, Terry English, Vic Hill, Dan Schlieper, Billy Drake, Todd Morrow, Bobby Giffin, Skip Arp, John Blankenship, Rick Eckert.
