Owens Remains Hottest
RaceFest World Championship
MINERAL WELLS, West Va. — The hottest driver in dirt late-model racing rolled through the field on Saturday Night at West Virginia Motor Speedway as Jimmy Owens picked up a convincing victory, bringing home the $20,000-to-win RaceFest World Championship for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
It was the fifth Lucas Oil Series win of the season for Owens, who was fresh off a World 100 triumph at Eldora Speedway, as he came from the 12th-starting spot inheriting the lead from Bart Hartman who had led the first 30 laps of the 75-lap main event after the rear-end on Hartman's car failed. Owens then went on to dominate the rest of the race in his Mike Reece-owned Bloomquist Race Cars No. 20.
Scott Bloomquist, the defending race-winner finished second followed by Earl Pearson Jr., 15th-starting Mike Balzano and Tim McCreadie. Pearson now holds a 230 point lead over Scott James with two series points races left in the season.
