FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Jeff Smith became the 13th-different winner in 17 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series races this season, taking Friday night’s $10,000-to-win 50-lap feature at Fayetteville Motor Speedway.
Smith was in familiar territory, notching his fifth-straight victory at the track and snapping the two-race Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series winning streak of Jimmy Owens in the process.
Smith took the lead from Owens on lap 14 and held off Owens’s challenges from there.
Owens settled for second. He was followed to the line by Earl Pearson, Jr. in third, Randle Chupp in fourth and Jeremy Clements in fifth.

SALUDA, Va. — Earl Pearson, Jr. left Virginia Motor Speedway Saturday night with the $10,000 winner’s share of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series All-American 50 and the series point lead.
Pearson took the lead from rookie Justin Rattliff on a lap-14 restart and held off challenges from Donnie Moran for the victory. Before the caution, Rattliff, Pearson and Moran were locked in a three-wide battle around the half-mile oval that lasted for two laps and ended with the yellow.
Moran finished second, followed by Jeremy Miller, Scott Bloomquist and Terry English. Rattliff fell to ninth.
The victory was Pearson’s third of the season in the series and gave the two-time defending champion the point lead for the first time in 2007.
