Schlieper, Pearson Strike

Armes Breaks Through With A $10,000 Tazewell Triumph

Thursday

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Leaving little doubt that he is the hottest dirt-late-model driver in the nation, Dan Schlieper took the lead from Terry Casey on lap 31 and claimed his third Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event in the last four races Thursday night at Muskingum County Speedway.
Casey finished second after starting 14th. Earl Pearson, Jr., who had to take a series provisional, came from 23rd to finish third, as he passed Bart Hartman with two laps to go. Hartman finished fourth, followed by Jason Covert.
“Man, I can’t say enough about this Wild Chassis. We’ve been on a roll,” Schlieper said.
Wayne Chinn led the first four laps and Josh Richards led lap five, but Schlieper moved to the front on the sixth circuit. He set the pace on the half-mile oval until Casey moved around him on lap 16.
Schlieper stalked Casey until retaking the top spot on lap 31. He led the remainder of the 50-lap event, which was slowed by seven yellow flags.
The finish:
Dan Schlieper, Terry Casey, Earl Pearson, Jr., Bart Hartman, Jason Covert, Tim Dohm, Donnie Moran, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Wayne Chinn, Steve Shaver, Josh Richards, Ryan Markham, Freddy Smith, Billy Drake, John Mason, Justin Rattliff, Cortney Clewell, Mark Banal, Shane McLoughlin, Steve Casebolt, Robbie Blair, Scott James, Dave Hess, Jr., Matt Lux, John Mallett.

Saturday

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — Scoring his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory since early April, three-time and reigning series champion Earl Pearson, Jr. passed Jimmy Owens with eight laps remaining to win the Toyota Tundra 60 Saturday night at Volunteer Speedway.
Owens handed second to Dale McDowell after Owens and a lapped car tangled, just after Pearson passed him for the lead. Trailing Pearson and McDowell across the finish line were Chad Ogle, Rick Rogers and Bart Hartman.
“It’s been a long-time coming,” said Pearson, who drives the No. 44 owned by Bobby Labonte. “Our crew has worked their rear ends off. It’s been an up-and-down season. I’ve flipped, got knocked out and broke my wrist. This is the car that Bobby (Labonte) drove in the Prelude and it ran so good, I think I’ll just keep on racing this car so maybe I won’t give it back to him to drive.”
Jimmy Owens was the fast qualifier for the 44-car field.
Ohio driver John Mason was injured in an accident during the first B main. Mason was transported to a Greenville, Tenn., hospital where he was treated for a concussion and released.
The finish:
Earl Pearson, Jr., Dale McDowell, Chad Ogle, Rick Rogers, Bart Hartman, Shanon Buckingham, Tommy Kerr, Vic Hill, Ray Cook, Mark Vineyard, Billy Drake, Steve Casebolt, John Gill, Shane Roberts, Michael Smith, Justin Rattliff, Jimmy Owens, Bryan Hendrix, Brad Neat, Scott Bloomquist, Dan Schlieper, Joe Armes, Chris Madden, Billy Ogle, Jr.
