Albany Debut Goes To Whitener
National Late Model Series
ALBANY, Ga. — The National Late Model Series made its first appearance on the new dirt at Albany Motor Speedway Saturday with Mark Whitener winning from the outside pole.
Jay Johnson took the pole with a fast time of 14.94 seconds, but Whitener followed at 15.16. But Whitener didn’t follow when it counted most, quickly taking the point in the feature.
Whitener held off challenges from Brandon Cameron, J.R. Moseley and a charging Jeremy Faircloth as the 50-lap feature remained green through the first 38 laps.
The checkers flew just in time for Whitener, whose driveshaft broke as he coasted into turn one just moments after taking the victory.
Cameron finished second and Johnson was third. Jeremy Faircoth and Mosely rounded out the top five.
The finish:
Mark Whitener, Brandon Cameron, Jay Johnson, Jeremy Faircloth, J.R. Moseley, Lark Haskins, Charles Sealy, Clay Bedenbaugh, Chuck Chitty, Steve Jones, Adam Giles, Keith Edge, Jay Carpenter, Earl Boyett, David Whitener, Bo Allen, Cale Simons.
