BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Scott Bloomquist set up a showdown with teammate Jimmy Owens for the overall point title at the SuperBowl of Racing IV at Golden Isles Speedway, winning Friday night’s O’Reilly Southern All Star Series-sanctioned super late-model feature.
Bloomquist pocketed another $10,000 for his second-straight victory. He also won Wednesday night before Thursday night’s race card was canceled due to rain.
“We hope we’ve created some energy for tomorrow,” said Bloomquist.
Owens dominated the early part of the scheduled 10-race SuperBowl, winning three of the first four races. Early on, it appeared as if Owens would add a fourth trophy to his collection, but Bloomquist moved under Owens on the final turn of lap 14 and won a drag race to the line. From there, Bloomquist was hardly challenged.
After finally moving around Kelly Boen to put Boen a lap down on lap 42, Bloomquist easily turned his fastest laps of the race at 17.055 seconds (84.431 miles per hour). Owens, who overcame engine problems from earlier in the day, was able to close the gap, but a serious challenge didn’t materialize until the final turn of the final lap, and it wasn’t nearly enough for Owens.
“I’m tickled with second place,” said Owens, who had to use an engine sealant to repair a cracked engine block in order to race. “Our guys have busted their tails all week. It felt good to lead. There are some good cars here, so it’s been good.”
Owens finished ahead of Dan Schlieper in third. Michael England and Clint Smith, who charged from his 16th-starting spot, rounded out the top five.
From England’s viewpoint, it was just more of the same since the SuperBowl of Racing began.
“Scott and Jimmy have been pretty-much dominant all week,” said England after his fourth-place finish. “I think we may have gotten a little bit closer, but we’ll have to work a little harder tomorrow, I guess.”
Bloomquist praised his entire team, which produced a 1-2 finish as well a placing Chris Madden in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish.
“We’ve got some good guys, and everybody really gets along,” said Bloomquist. “Everybody really wants to win, but there’s no jealousy. Everyone’s real happy to be doing as well as we’re doing.”
The finish:
Scott Bloomquist, Jimmy Owens, Dan Schlieper, Michael England, Clint Smith, Donnie Moran, Billy Decker, Josh Richards, Chris Madden, Chub Frank, Brady Smith, Earl Pearson, Jr., Darren Miller, Shane Clanton, Mark Vineyard, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., Kelly Boen, Shanon Buckingham, Tim Fuller, Dennis Erb, Jr., Terry Casey, Anthony White, Billy Moyer, Steve Shaver, Don O’Neal, Shannon Babb.

Jan. 30
BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Outside front- row starter Scott Bloomquist blasted into the lead at the green flag and rumbled to the $10,000 O’Reilly Southern All Stars Series victory Jan. 30 at Golden Isles Speedway.
It was the first event in the 10-night SuperBowl of Racing at the four-tenths-mile oval sanctioned by the Southern All Stars and represented a return to prominence by Bloomquist, who had been disqualified by UMP officials for using an illegal tire during qualifying two days earlier.
Chris Madden finished second after starting from the pole. Colorado racer Kelly Boen charged from ninth to finish third, while Jimmy Owens, who won three of the first four races in the series, finished fourth. Tim Fuller, who was the fast qualifier for the 60-car field, rounded out the top five.

Owens Gets Third SuperBowl Win
Jan. 29
BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The drought lasted only one race for Jimmy Owens.
Coming off a sixth-place finish, Owens got back to his winning ways Jan. 29 at Golden Isles Speedway’s SuperBowl of Racing IV for his third victory in four events during the 10-night event.
Owens, who picked up another $10,000, sprinted away at the outset and was never challenged in capturing the unsanctioned 50-lap victory.
Fifth-starting Josh Richards passed polesitter Steve Francis for second, but could not keep pace with Owens. Owens beat Richards to the checkered flag by more than five seconds, while Tim Fuller, Shane Clanton and Rick Eckert, who started 25th, rounded out the top five.
Terry Casey was the fast qualifier for the 58-car field.
The finish:
Jimmy Owens, Josh Richards, Steve Francis, Tim Fuller, Shane Clanton, Rick Eckert, Earl Pearson, Jr., Scott Bloomquist, Justin Rattliff, Ricky Elliott, Damon Eller, Dennis Erb, Jr., Kelly Boen, Matt Miller, Randle Chupp, Tommy Kerr, Casey Roberts, Chris Madden, Billy Moyer, Brady Smith, Terry Casey, Don O’Neal, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., Tim McCreadie, Darren Miller.
Pearson Brings It On Home
Jan. 28
BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Earl Pearson, Jr. cut his racing teeth at Golden Isles Speedway in the 1990s, but the oval has been radically reconfigured in recent months.
It didn’t take long for Pearson to adjust to the four-tenths-mile layout during the SuperBowl of Racing IV.
Just hours before his 36th birthday, the fifth-starting Pearson took the lead from Billy Moyer on the eighth lap and led the remainder of the 50-lap UMP feature for a $10,000 payday Jan. 28.
Pearson’s near-straightaway lead at the halfway point was cut to just a few lengths with 14 laps remaining, but Pearson began stretching his margin again by the 40-lap mark.
With clear track ahead of him the final 10 laps, Pearson was able to stick with his low groove and keep Moyer from making a serious challenge.
Third-starting Chris Madden never contested the leaders in finishing third, while polesitter Chub Frank was fourth, ahead of 12th-starting Ivedent Lloyd, Jr.
Jimmy Owens, looking for his third-straight victory at Golden Isles, started 14th and finished sixth.
The evening opened with controversy as former SuperBowl of Racing winner Scott Bloomquist’s fast time was stripped because officials ruled his tires were too soft. Instead of starting on the tail of a heat race, the Hall of Fame driver decided to load up his car. Madden was scored the fast qualifier for the 56-car field.
Jonathan Davenport earned $2,000 for winning the night’s 25-lap feature for UMP-sanctioned crate late-model feature.
The finish:
Earl Pearson, Jr., Billy Moyer, Chris Madden, Chub Frank, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., Jimmy Owens, Shane Clanton, Steve Francis, Mike Marlar, Terry Casey, Damon Eller, Kelly Boen, Justin Rattliff, Josh Richards, Vic Coffey, Dennis Erb, Jr., Ed Basey, Clint Smith, Tim Fuller, Donnie Moran, Ricky Elliott, Shanon Buckingham, Darrell Lanigan, Michael England, Tim McCreadie, Dale Groves, Jr.
