Bullseye: Anderson On Target In ’Zona Shootout
Wild West Late Model Shootout
Sunday
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — After a three-year gap between victories in the Wild West Shootout, John Anderson was dead set against waiting another three years for his next one, pulling off a late-race pass to grab his second victory in as many nights in Sunday’s $7,500-to-win season finale at Central Arizona Speedway.
Anderson started the main event on the outside front row alongside Eric Mass. After trailing Mass on the opening lap, Anderson shot past to take the lead with Jimmy Mars moving up to second place.
On lap 32, Mars finally reeled in Anderson and after a short side-by-side battle was able to pull ahead to take the top spot.
Anderson was not to be denied, catching up and pulling even with Mars with five laps to go. After another short door-to-door duel, Anderson re-gained the top spot and held on through the final restart for his second victory in a row. Jack Sullivan, Terry Phillips and Will Vaught rounded out the top five.
The finish:
John Anderson, Jimmy Mars, Jack Sullivan, Terry Phillips, Will Vaught, Brad Looney, Trevor Glaser, Brad Seng, David Murray, Jr., Jon Mitchell, Eric Mass, Jimmy Whistler, Andrew McKay, Mike Balcaen, Steve Drake, Ron Bartels, Ricky Weiss, John Lowery, Rob Mayea, Mike Stadel, Jeremy Payne, Stacey Taylor, Lonnie Parker, Jr., Eddie Kirchoff.
Saturday
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — After a three-year winless drought in Central Arizona Speedway’s annual winter mini-series, John Anderson finally returned to victory lane with his first Wild West Shootout victory since 2004 in Saturday night’s $3,000-to-win 30-lap A-main.
Anderson, the 2007 Midwest Late Model Ass’n National Champion, jumped from sixth to third on lap six and began his pursuit of race leader Terry Phillips.
Following a caution flag on lap 10, Anderson jumped the cushion to pull alongside Phillips before taking the lead for good on lap 12.

Phillips settled for second, followed by Brad Looney, Jimmy Mars and Trevor Glaser.
