Choquette Tops In Opener

LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida late-model regular Jeff Choquette kicked off the season with a victory in Sunday’s rain-delayed NOS Energy Drink 200 at USA Int’l Speedway.
The race, which featured late-model racers from CRA, ASA and FASCAR, was rained out Saturday night and run on Sunday afternoon.
Choquette, who along with Ryan Lawler won the two 100-lap qualifying races on Friday, started on the front. Choquette took the early lead and paced the first 28 laps. He took the lead for the final time on a lap-141 restart.
He held off Lawler for the victory, with Shane Sawyer, David Rogers and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular Kyle Busch rounding out the top five.
Sean Murphy claimed the victory in the companion 100-lap event for crate late models.
