EAGLE, Neb. — Todd Cooney proved up to the challenge in Saturday’s opening night Deery Brothers Summer Series dirt-late-model feature at Eagle Raceway.
Cooney followed the top groove to catch leader Tom Darbyshire on  the 15th circuit, and then led to the finish of the 35-lapper for a  $1,000 payday. The tour victory was his career fifth and headlined  the first of two Ice Breaker Challenge programs at Eagle this weekend.
Boone McLaughlin made his way through the 24-car field  to finish second. Craig Roberts, Jason Frankel and Mike Klinkhammer filled the top five.

EAGLE, Neb. — A first-time winner emerged from night two of the Deery Brothers Summer Series doubleheader Sunday during Eagle Raceway’s Ice Breaker Challenge weekend.
Mike Collins led all 35 laps to top Sunday’s IMCA J&J Steel Late Model tour event to take home the $2,000 winner’s share. Collins finished ahead of Saturday victor Todd Cooney, holding off Cooney through several restarts.
Mike Klinkhammer finished third ahead of Boone McLaughlin in fourth and Darrel DeFrance in fifth.
