Abilene Opens With Two Over Weekend
Abilene Speedway, Abilene, Texas
Friday
ABILENE, Texas — More than 150 teams kicked up the dirt at the quarter-mile Abilene Speedway on Friday during the annual IceBreaker event, which marked the start of the track’s point season.
Four IMCA classes were on hand with Jay Noteboom taking home the modified victory. Gary Underwood won in the Southern SportMods. Tim Pyle claimed the top honors in stock cars, and Shannon Anderson was the winner in the hobby-stock division.
Rick Butz came out on top in the pure-stock feature, and Aaron Elliott, in what was only his third day in a race car, was the junior pro-stock winner.
Saturday
ABILENE, Texas — Robbie Edwards survived a stop-and-go 20-lap modified feature, which included a long red-flag period, to take the victory Saturday night at Abilene Speedway.
Edwards jumped out to lead the final four laps after the final restart unchallenged.
Last weekend, Keith White was leading before mechanical issues sunk his bid at the checkered flag. But on Saturday, the two-time Southern SportMod champion regrouped and led from start to finish, taking the win over Josh McGaha.
Other division winners: Joe Colyer (stock car), Nathan Sodek (hobby stock), Richard Hoffman (pure stock) and Aaron Elliott (junior mini stock).
