Aukland Wins ‘Right Race’

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Although he was ecstatic about the monumental feat he had just attained, Rick Aukland proclaimed somewhat jokingly in victory lane, “I just keep winning the wrong race here.”
Aukland raced from seventh starting spot to win the modified portion of the 27th annual Dirt Track World Championship. In the past, Aukland has twice won the non-qualifiers feature for the late-model portion of the program.
Aukland took the lead from Jess Hartman on lap 20 and went on to victory on the third-mile dirt track.
Hartman finished second, while David Hess, Dave Groves and Cory Conley rounded out the top five.
