Phillips Completes Desert Double

Central Arizona Raceway, Casa Grande, Ariz.

Friday

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Jeremy Payne opened the weekend with a modified victory Friday in the first of three nights of racing at Central Arizona Raceway.
The race was shortened by 10 laps due to a 37-minute red flag, which halted competition as track workers tended to Kellen Chadwick following a multi-car crash on lap two.
The accident had already taken place before Chadwick got collected but he took the brunt of the damage, flipping end over end before getting hit a final time after his machine  landed on its roof. Chadwick was airlifted to a local hospital after complaining of neck pain.
Following the restart, Payne led the way and went unchallenged in the closing laps.
Kelly Shryock, Chris Olexowicz, Jason Krohn and Chad Ayers completed the top five.

Saturday

CASA GRANDE, AZ. —Saturday night at Central Arizona Raceway, Terry Phillips claimed a heat early in the evening to help out his feature win and secured a front row start for Sunday’s Salute to the Veterans 100.
Phillips took the lead early from Eric Turner, who gave chase through the finish. Jason Hughes, Tommy Weder and Zach Vanderbeek rounded out the top five.
Steven Ashcraft claimed the win in the super stock division and Chad Stewart took top billing in the dwarf-car division.

Sunday

CASA GRANDE, AZ. — Terry Phillips carried the momentum from Saturday night’s victory into Sunday’s Salute to the Veterans 100 modified feature, starting from the front row and leading all 100 laps to earn his second victory in as many nights.
Phillips grabbed the lead from teammate Jeremy Payne in turn two on the first lap of the modified competition. The race ran caution-free and Phillips went unchallenged. Payne finished second, with Eric Turner, Jason Hughes and Tommy Weder, Jr. filling the top five.
Jason Harvil was the pure stock winner.
