Boney And Allen End Long USMTS Droughts

MCCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. —  Justin Boney raced with a heavy heart and a heavy right foot to win on the opening night of the fifth-annual Nebraska Spring Thaw sanctioned by the United States Modified Touring Series at Junction Motor Speedway Friday night.
“We’re still working some things out in the car, but this win is encouraging,” said Boney, whose grandmother died a week earlier. “I want to dedicate this win to my grandmother.”
Boney started fourth in his first race at the three-eighths-mile oval and took the lead on lap two. He led the rest of the way en route to the $2,000 triumph, holding off a last lap charge from runner-up Brad Waits.
Zack VanderBeek, Jason Krohn and Kelly Shryock filled the top five.

MCCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. — Just one week shy of going six years without a win under the United States Modified Touring Series banner, John Allen used a late-race restart to snag the lead from Brad Waits and pull away to win Saturday night’s Nebraska Spring Thaw at Junction Motor Speedway.
Mike Sorensen led the first three laps, but Allen went to the lead on lap four of the three-eighths-mile dirt track. He set the pace until Waits came calling on lap 11.
Waits appeared en route to victory until Allen used a yellow flag with two laps remaining to surge back to the front on the white-flag lap and held on for the victory.
Waits finished second, ahead of Zack VanderBeek, Tommy Weder, Jr. and Steve Kosiski.
