Donlinger Top Winner During Busy USMTS Week

WEST UNION, Iowa — Three weeks after 17-year-old Ryan Gustin became the youngest winner in the 10-year history of the United States Modified Touring Series, the youth movement continued Sept. 16 as Jake Neal, 18, won his first-career tour victory at Fayette County Speedway.
Neal found the highline and got by Tommy Weder, Jr. on lap 18 and held off Weder for the victory.
Dereck Ramirez followed Weder to the stripe in third. Tim Donlinger was fourth and Jon Tesch completed the top five.

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. — Jason Cummins was the winner Sept. 17 in the 20-lap USMTS Night of Victory Shootout at Deer Creek Raceway.
Cummins led Mike Sorenson to the stripe ahead of multiple-time USMTS champion Kelly Shryock, who started 18th, in third. Bob Timm and Scott Green completed the top five.

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. — Jason Hughes was the best of the best, topping 112 entries to win on the opening night of the 10th annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek Speedway Thursday night.
Hughes led the final 20 laps of the 30-lap event to post the $2,000 victory, his fourth at the three-eighths-mile oval.
Polesitter Steve Wetzstein inherited the runner-up spot when Al Hejna spun and held his position for the final 15 laps, holding off Jon Tesch, 15th-starting Kelly Shryock and Tim Donlinger.

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. — Zack VanderBeek’s first win at Deer Creek Speedway was a big one as he dominated Friday night’s second night of the 10th annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at the three-eighths-mile clay oval.
The win was worth $4,000 to the 24-year-old from New Sharon, Iowa. Deer Creek Speedway champion Brad Waits started on the pole for the 35-lap event, but VanderBeek took the lead at the green flag and led every lap.
VanderBeek held off Jason Hughes by a car length for his fifth victory of the season, while Waits finished third. Point-leader Tim Donlinger held off Kelly Shryock for fourth.

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. — Tim Donlinger recovered from struggles early in the Casey’s General Stores Hunt for the O’Reilly USMTS National Championship to claim the title with a victory in Saturday’s 10th-annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek Speedway.
The win was Donlinger’s fourth during the 10-race Hunt and paid $7,000. The national championship paid another $10,000.
Donlinger charged to the front and was locked in a multi-lap battle with Jon Tesch for the lead, which Donlinger took for good on lap 33 of the 40-lap feature. Tesch settled for second ahead of Jason Hughes in third, Zack VanderBeek in fourth and Steve Wetzstein in fifth. Shryock finished eighth.
