Jason Hughes Loses On Friday But Reclaims Saturday Race

Missouri Nationals, LA Raceway, La Monte, Mo.

Friday
LA MONTE, Mo.  — Kelly Shryock sneaked by Jason Hughes with six laps to go Friday night, and went on to score the victory on opening night of the fifth annual Missouri Nationals at LA Raceway.
It was the second win of the season for the eight-time O’Reilly USMTS National Champion and helped him pad his point lead in the Mo-Kan Region of the O’Reilly USMTS National Tour.
Hughes jumped out to a sizeable lead from the pole and was looking to whip up on the field for his second win of the year. However, Hughes bobbled slightly on lap 29 and Shryock roared past to claim the $2,000 top prize.
Hughes held on for second, with Jon Tesch third. John Allen and Johnny Bone, Jr. filled the top five.
The finish:
Kelly Shryock, Jason Hughes, Jon Tesch, John Allen, Johnny Bone, Jr., Jason Krohn, Jesse Stovall, Brandon Kenny, Justin Boney, Dustin Boney, Jay Noteboom, Al Hejna, Eric Turner, Zack VanderBeek, Gary Langworthy, Jr., Matt Dotson, Jeremy Rasmussen, Mike Wedelstadt, David Holder, Richie Gustin, Jr., Gary Clark, Greg Skaggs, Chad Lyle, Brian Williams.

Saturday

LEBANON, Mo. — One mistake on Friday night at LA Raceway was all that Kelly Shryock needed to steal the win away from Jason Hughes, who led the first 29 of 35 laps.
On Saturday night, Hughes was flawless at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway, as he led wire to wire for his second O’Reilly USMTS National Tour triumph this season.
Coming from the 14th starting spot, John Allen moved up through the field and actually ran side-by-side with Hughes for a couple of laps midway through the race, but Hughes was able to expand his lead over the final dozen circuits to sail to a $2,000 payday.
Shryock started next to Hughes on the front row, but fell back to as far as fourth place during the contest before clawing his way back to make a late-race pass of Allen and claim the runner-up spot. Johnny Bone, Jr. raced from 13th to finish fourth, while Greg Skaggs was fifth.
The finish:
Jason Hughes, Kelly Shryock, John Allen, Johnny Bone, Jr., Greg Skaggs, Jason Krohn, Jay Noteboom, Leslie Essary, Chris Spieker, Don Crnkovich, Zack VanderBeek, Brandon Kenny, Justin Boney, Jon Tesch, Gary Langworthy, Jr., Mike Wedelstadt, Bryan Rowland, Dustin Boney, Jesse Stovall, Michael Long, David Holder, Al Hejna, Jason Meadors, Tony Jackson, Jr., Matt Dotson.
