With the field bunched up for a two-wide, late-race restart, Shryock overtook Jason Hughes for the lead with three laps to go in the 40-lap event and drove on to the victory.

BEATRICE, Neb. — Jason Hughes turned the tables on Kelly Shryock, fending off the eight-time defending champ to take his third O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series feature of the season Aug. 8 at Beatrice Speedway.
Hughes dominated the event, leading 34 of 40 laps. Jason Frisen challenged Hughes early for the lead, but spun out just after he pulled alongside Hughes.
Shryock moved forward to pressure Hughes on the restart and took the top spot briefly before Hughes regained the lead five laps later. Shryock, though, continued to chase Hughes, nosing ahead for the lead with six laps to go. A caution, though, gave the top spot back to Hughes, who held off Shryock in the final laps.
With his second-place finish, Shryock claimed the Western Region title, making a clean sweep of all four National Event regions.

The 31-year-old dominated Thursday's Holley A main, leading every lap and lapping all but five cars. The race's only caution waved on lap 13 to bunch up the field, otherwise Tesch very well may have lapped the field.

Runner-up Dean Mahlstedt made the biggest jump among the title chasers, leaping from 18th to sixth in points.
