WEEDSPORT, N.Y. — Track experience paid big dividends for Billy Decker and Alan Johnson on Sunday as the multi-time Weedsport track champions and feature winners each took their first lead two-thirds of the way through in the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified Twin 53s and coasted on to $3,000 victories at Cayuga County Fair Speedway.
Decker started ninth in the opener and slowly worked his way forward, overtaking Jimmy Phelps on lap 36 and went on to score a four-length victory. Phelps secured runner-up laurels at the line followed by Steve Paine, series point-leader Tim Fuller and Alan Johnson.
In the second twin feature, Alan Johnson battled younger brother Danny Johnson for the lead, taking over on lap 32 and then surviving a challenge of Brett Hearn. Hearn and Alan Johnson swapped the point four times over the next six laps with Johnson pulling away for good on lap 42. Phelps finished third, while Danny Johnson and Decker rounded out the top five.
