Many Modified Winners As UMP Gets Under Way At VSP

BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Jesse Stovall opened the UMP DIRTcar open-wheel modified portion of the 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals with a convincing victory Feb. 5 at Volusia Speedway Park.
The Show-Me-State standout blasted from the fifth starting spot to the lead in a single lap and never looked back in the 20-lap feature. He wasn’t seriously challenged en route to earning $1,000 for his first triumph at the half-mile oval.
“It’s been a dream for me to even get to come down here, and to win a race on the first night is unreal, I’m beside myself,” Stovall said.
Outside polesitter Tim Hancock finished a half-straightaway behind the winner in second after holding off a late charge by Jason Miller. Ken Schrader and Mike Spatola filled the top five.

Feb. 6
BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Scott Drake kept the spotlight on the Show-Me- State during the 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals with a victory in Wednesday night’s 20-lap UMP DIRTcar modified feature at Volusia Speedway Park.
The Webb City, Mo., veteran became the second Missouri driver in as many nights to bag a $1,000 triumph at the half-mile oval, following in the tire tracks of his teammate, Jesse Stovall.
Drake, a 36-year-old who spends the majority of his time racing a dirt late model throughout the Midwest, advanced from the fifth starting spot to grab the lead from polesitter Mike Spatola on lap eight.
Jared Landers finished second with Ken Schrader, Spatola and Austin Dillon rounding out the top five.
Seventy cars were entered in the evening’s action.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Jared Landers registered a flag-to-flag victory in Thursday night’s 20-lap UMP DIRTcar modified feature during the 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.
Driving a Mullins-powered Shaw car that sports sponsorship from Mark Martin Ford, Landers led every lap en route to the $1,000 top prize.
He finished a half-straightaway ahead of Dave Hess, Jr., who started 13th. Brad Waits was third, with Scott Drake fourth.
Series point-leader Ken Schrader charged from the rear of the B main after missing hot laps and heat races because of a commitment at NASCAR media day at Daytona Int’l Speedway. He started 23rd in the feature and finished fifth.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Jared Landers is looking like a potential champion of the 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals.
The 25-year-old Batesville, Ark., standout assumed the point lead halfway through the eight-event UMP DIRTcar Modified meet at Volusia Speedway Park, rolling to his second- straight victory Friday night at the half-mile dirt track.
Landers rocketed forward from the sixth starting spot to grab the lead from Jason Schill on lap three. He dominated the remainder of the distance, cruising to a comfortable half-straightaway victory.
Schill settled for second. Opening-night winner Jesse Stovall, who failed to qualify the previous two nights, advanced from ninth to place third, followed by Alan Mondus and Joey Jensen.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Twenty-four hours after a crash left him a non-qualifier, Dave Hess, Jr. roared back to win Saturday night’s 20-lap UMP DIRTcar modified feature during the 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.
Hess raced off the pole to lead the race’s entire distance. He pocketed $1,500 for his first career win at the half-mile clay oval.
There was an anxious moment for Hess, however, in the event’s final moments. He received an outside challenge from Wayne Troseth with the white flag flying, but Troseth lost traction and fell to seventh.
Scott Drake came on to finish second, with Julie McDermid, Jesse Stovall and Jeff Mathews following.
A week-high total of 83 cars competed on Saturday night.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Tim Hancock scored a hard-fought victory in Sunday night’s 20-lap UMP DIRTcar modified feature during the 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.
Though Hancock started from the pole, he fell back to third at the initial green flag and had to battle back to the front. He finally secured the lead with a lap-11 restart pass by Mike Spatola.
Hancock earned $1,500, with Tommie Seets, Jr. charging from 12th to finish second. Jason Miller romped from 16th to third, with George Catanzano and Ken Schrader rounding out the top five.
