46-Race Schedule Set For WoO Late Models
ORLANDO, Fla. — The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will be exposed to a record number of fans across the United States and Canada in 2008.
The 2008 schedule, which currently lists 46 events at 39 tracks, kicks off Feb. 14 and 16 at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla.
More than a dozen tracks are slated to host a WoO LMS event for the first time and there are visits to 22 different states and three Canadian provinces currently on the 2008 schedule.
There are also several big-money, extra-distance events dotting the 2008 slate, highlighted by the $50,000-to-win Circle K Colossal 100 on April 18-19 at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., and the $40,000-to-win Firecracker 100 June 27-28 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.
“The goal that we have set is to continue to be the number one dirt-late-model racing series in the country,” said Tim Christman, the director of the WoO LMS. “To achieve that we need to continue to grow the series and broaden its horizons, and there’s no doubt we are doing that with the schedule of events we have put together for 2008.”
A centerpiece of the ’08 schedule will be the farthest trip west in the history of the WoO LMS. The Wild West Tour — a series-within-the-series of at least eight events paying $10,000 to win — is currently scheduled to barnstorm through six states and the Canadian province of Saskatchewan from July 9-21.
First-time tracks on the tour include Saskatchewan’s Estevan Motor Speedway, Gillette (Wyo.) Thunder Speedway, Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, S.D. and Boone County Speedway in Albion, Neb.
Other tracks hosting WoO LM events for the first time are Ohio’s Muskingum County Speedway, Ohsweken Speedway and Cornwall Motor Speedway, both in Ontario, Canandaigua (N.Y.) Speedway, Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park, Big Diamond Raceway in Pennsylvania, Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga.
The WoO LMS will conclude for the second consecutive year at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway, which will host four events, with the sprint cars again joining the late models for the Outlaws World Finals Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
