Bloomquist Sets Sights On More Armor In Colossal 100
CONCORD, N.C. — The first big-money dirt-late-model race of the season, the Colossal 100 is set for Saturday night at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
With many of the nation’s best late-model racers entered, the third edition of this unique race on the four-tenths-mile dirt track should provide an entertaining experience for fans offering up the $39 entry fee.
With qualifying and heats on Friday night, the Colossal 100, which is sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, will again pay $50,000 to the winner of the 100-lap grind, a check that has been claimed in consecutive years by veteran driver Scott Bloomquist.
In addition to $50,000, the Colossal 100 winner receives a unique sword and helmet.
“Those helmets and swords are something we’re really proud of,” Bloomquist said. “It’s unusual to get something so classy and they have a lot of meaning. There are a lot of unique things that you enjoy getting besides another trophy, but that sword and helmet for winning the Colossal are definitely at the top of the list.”
Among those challenging Bloomquist will be Billy Moyer, who has been the hottest driver in any division during the early part of 2008, defending WoO champion Steve Francis and Bloomquist’s teammates Jimmy Owens and Chris Madden, who completed a 1-2-3 sweep for the Bloomquist chassis during the 2007 running of the Colossal 100.
