Smith Survives To Find The Way To Victory Lane
Shirley rallies for second
LEBANON, Mo. — Clint Smith found a clean groove and rode it to victory in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series Missouri 50 on July 3 at Lebanon I-44 Speedway.
Smith marched forward from the 10th-starting spot to grab the lead from Rick Eckert on lap 28. He controlled the remainder of the distance, pocketing $10,000 for his third tour triumph of the 2007 season.
Smith, 42, survived a rough-and-tumble race that saw a rash of flat tires erase the hopes of several contenders, including early leaders Shannon Babb and Brian Shirley.
Shirley rallied from his lap-24 pit stop for a new tire to finish second, 1.282 seconds behind Smith. He overtook Eckert for the spot on lap 47.
Eckert settled for third, followed by WoO LMS point-leader Steve Francis and Shane Clanton.
