Wednesday

PORT ROYAL, Pa. — Darrell Lanigan beat pole-starter Josh Richards into turn one at and led all 40 laps to win the June 20 World of Outlaws Late Model Series race at Port Royal Speedway.
It was Lanigan’s second victory in five days after breaking his season-long dry spell at Knoxville Raceway the preceding Friday.
Pennsylvania favorite Rick Eckert slipped past Richards for second with a dozen laps remaining but could make no impression on Lanigan’s half-straightaway lead.
“We really haven’t found anything special,” said Lanigan, who earned $7,000. “We’re just doing the same basic stuff we did last year, and now we’re getting some luck.”
Richards faded in the closing laps but held onto third, ahead of Chub Frank and Clint Smith.
Fast-qualifier Shane Clanton led the second five, with Travis Dillman, Steve Francis, Ricky Elliott and D.J. Myers completing the top 10.
Dillman was the leading track regular as the Outlaw travelers swept the first six spots.
A large crowd, perfect weather and a field of 46 cars turned out for the first major late-model event at this temple of sprint-car racing since the 1970s.
Andy Fries led the supporting limited-late-model feature flag to flag.

Saturday

DRUMMONDVILLE, Quebec — He had to go across the border to end it, but the drought is over for Steve Francis.
Francis won his first World of Outlaws Late Model Series event in more than a year on Saturday night, capturing the historic ‘Quebec 50’ at Autodrome Drummond.
“We needed this,” a relieved Francis said after taking the checkered flag in the first WoO Late Model Series race in Canada.
Francis passed Josh Richards for the lead on lap 21 and never looked back, dominating the feature’s second half en route to pocketing $10,000 for his first WoO LMS triumph since May 6, 2006, at Bruschcreek Motorsports Complex in Peebles, Ohio.
Rick Eckert chased Francis for the race’s final 24 laps but never made a serious bid for the lead, finishing 1.599 seconds back in second place. It was Eckert’s second-consecutive runner-up finish and fourth overall – without a win – of the 2007 WoO LMS season.
Tim Fuller finished third, followed by Chub Frank and Shane Clanton.
Clint Smith maintained his series point lead with a sixth-place finish, but he lost two spots on the final lap after a broken spindle caused his car to fall off the pace.
