ALLENTOWN, Ohio — Jac Haudenschild and Brad Doty have been fast friends for many years. On July 11, Haudenschild added a victory in the Fram Autolite Brad Doty Classic to his résumé.
Haudenschild led all 40 laps at Limaland Motorsports Park to pick up the $10,000 winner’s check in the 19th annual event.
Haudenshild’s second victory of the season came before the largest crowd in the 72-year history of the quarter-mile dirt track.
“This is a special win,” said Haudenschild. “Brad (Doty) raced tough back when he ran with the Outlaws. He was always a good competitor, and we had a lot of good times on the road together.”
Haudenschild began the night by turning the fastest lap in time trials, with 42 cars clocking in. He followed that up with a win in the first heat and finished second in the Crane Cams Dash.
“The car was running good tonight,” Haudenschild said. “The crew did a great job getting everything ready. We have been pretty fast the last few races. Hopefully, we can keep this pace up and keep the car up front.”
Haudenschild ran his trademark top groove throughout the event.
“We rubbed the wall a couple of times on the straightaway, but the car was handling so good that it didn’t really affect me much,” smiled Haudenschild.
Steve Kinser had a couple of opportunities on restarts to challenge Haudenschild, but didn’t have enough to make the pass.
“It wasn’t too bad of a night,” said Kinser, who raced at Limaland for the first time since 1979. “I may have been too patient. I got pretty loose getting in the corners and a little loose getting off. We have been so tight here lately that we have been trying some things to free the car up. We may have gone a little bit too much, but we haven’t quite figured out what we want to do yet.”
Jason Meyers moved from 13th on the grid to finish third. Craig Dollansky and Brooke Tatnell rounded out the top five.
