Outlaw Madsen Makes Fellow Aussies Proud

KWINANA BEACH, Australia — Kerry Madsen was back in action in his native Australia last weekend, competing in the first two rounds of the World Series Sprintcars season.
Also in action was two-time reigning World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz. Both endured a 17-plus-hour flight to make the events.
The pair battled for the win Saturday night at Perth Motorplex, with Madsen coming out on top.
A native of St. Mary’s, NSW, Australia, Madsen started second in the 30-lap contest, while Schatz lined up sixth. Madsen led early, with Schatz taking the top spot as the pair worked lapped traffic.
Toward the middle of the race, Madsen charged past Schatz in traffic to take the decisive lead.
Brooke Tatnell, who was victorious Friday night and is the current championship point leader with the World Series Sprintcars, finished third. Jason Johnson was fourth, with North Dakota’s Mark Dobmeier coming home seventh.
Madsen, who won twice with the World of Outlaws in 2007, failed to make the feature Friday night in the opening round for the World Series Sprintcars, while Schatz was caught up in an accident.
