Stewart, Schatz To Shine With Armor All In 2008
CONCORD, N.C. — As reported in the Aug. 15 issue of National Speed Sport News, Armor All will sponsor the Tony Stewart Racing No. 15 sprint car to be driven by defending World of Outlaws champion and point-leader Donny Schatz.
The announcement was made official Friday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, with team owner Tony Stewart and Schatz on hand. Schatz left LMS following the press event to fly to California for Saturday night’s race in Tulare, Calif.
As previously reported, TSR will expand to two cars for next year’s World of Outlaws season, with Schatz’s No. 15 joining the No. 20, which Paul McMahan has driven the past two seasons. Stewart is not yet ready to name the new driver for the No. 20. He is happy to have landed Schatz, who leaves his family-owned team at the end of the year.
“Donny’s record speaks for itself,” he said. “We landed a first-round draft pick when we got him.”
Multi-car teams are not common in short-track racing.
“We have wanted to expand to a two-car team for some time,” Stewart said. “There are not too many WoO teams that have branched out to run two cars. We will be one of the few to try it. We will be the first to bring the Cup aspect of things to sprint-car racing. We will be able to share information between the two cars and drivers and hopefully keep both cars up front.”
In addition to the arrangement to sponsor Schatz, Armor All will support the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Busch Series car that Stewart will drive at Daytona Int’l Speedway in February.
