CONCORD, N.C. — The recent departure of Torco Racing Fuels as a team sponsor in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series has left many teams without sponsorship less than two weeks before the first event in Pomona, Calif. Among them is Pro Stock driver Dave Connolly.
Connolly’s team owner Victor Cagnazzi said Thursday the team had a few prospects but had yet to sign a sponsor.
“We’re making calls all day long until the businesses close in California,” said Cagnazzi, who admitted he can’t afford to run Connolly’s Chevrolet Cobalt team out of pocket without sponsorship. “We have a few possibilities, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”
The Cagnazzi team also fields the car wheeled by series champion Jeg Coughlin, Jr.
