Heated Meeting Regarding Mosley

By Dan Knutson

BARCELONA, Spain — The team bosses gathered at the Toyota motorhome on Saturday morning for a meeting that got quite stormy at times as they discussed the touchy subject of Max Mosley and the timetable for the introduction of the KERS systems.
While they declined to publicly reveal specifics, there was a move to have all the teams plus Bernie Ecclestone sign a letter asking Mosley to resign. Three teams refused, however, tempers flared and the meeting ended on a sour note.
Things also got rather heated before that as some teams pushed to delay the introduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems for engines until 2010.
“I didn’t get heated, I got passionate,” said McLaren’s Ron Dennis, who was one of several who raised his voice in the meeting. “What I find particularly frustrating is that a lot of people that were there are not the people who sign the checks.
“I was keen to make very clear the consequences of us not finding a constructive way forward. I’m just passionate, and I voiced my opinion about that. That’s the only thing that was an issue. It was just a commercial issue.”
While the teams could not agree about Mosley, KERS will be introduced in 2009 as planned.
