Buckwalter Rules Susky
NEWBERRYTOWN, Pa. — With rain bearing down on Susquehanna Speedway Park, Steve Buckwalter won Thursday night’s American Racing Drivers Club midget feature.
Buckwalter started 10th in the feature and worked his way through the field during the 20-lap event on the half-mile dirt track, grabbing the lead from Randy Monroe, Jr. on the white-flag lap.
“To be honest, in the beginning I really didn’t think I was going to be able to get up there,” Buckwalter said. “I was getting frustrated because I kept getting boxed in, then I started over-driving the car. When P.J. (Gargiulo) got by me, I had to slow down in one corner and the car actually went quicker. Then, I remembered the old saying, ‘slow down to go fast.’”
Monroe finished second, with Scott Zipp, Gargiulo and Nick Wean rounding out the top five.
The finish:
Steve Buckwalter, Randy Monroe, Jr., Scott Zipp, P.J. Gargiulo, Nick Wean, Steve Lenig, Bruce Buckwalter, Zack Martini, Andy Martin, Tracy Readinger, Frank Polimeda, A.J. Ernesto, Eric Heydenreich, Greg Robinson, Drew Heistand, Ryan Watt, Ryan Smith, Steve Craig, Michelle Miller, Jimmy Commock, Tracy Miller, Shane Penny, Chris Zrinski, Carey Becker, Dave Shirk, Brett Arndt.
