THOMPSON, Conn. — Randy Cabral made it to victory lane Thursday night at Thompson Int’l Speedway. His Bertrand No. 47 midget didn’t. It was parked against the wall in turn three.
It was the third Northeastern Midget Ass’n win of the campaign for Cabral.
He took the lead shortly before the midway point and romped to victory. He then left his car near the spot where Shane Hammond suffered fatal injuries in the last NEMA event at the track in April.
“I had to do that for Shane,” said Cabral. “That was the last place I saw my buddy.
“It’s a tough, tough night.”
Cabral started 10th and took the lead from Erica Santos on lap 12. From there, he checked out on the five-eighths-mile asphalt oval, finishing a half straightaway ahead of Bobby Santos III.
E. Santos was third, ahead of Nokie Fornoro and Joey Payne, Jr.
The finish:
Randy Cabral, Bobby Santos III, Erica Santos, Nokie Fornoro, Joey Payne, Jr., Jeremy Frankoski, Adam Cantor, Jeff Horn, Mike Horn, John Zych, Jr., Doug Cleveland, Lee Bundy, Kevin Park, Greg Stoehr, Paul Luggelle, Mark Irwin, Neil Blatt.
