Seitz Scores Rare NEMA Repeat
SEEKONK, Mass. — Ben Seitz became the first repeat winner of the Northeastern Midget Ass’n season Saturday night with his dominating performance in the prestigious “Boston” Louie Seymour Memorial Coors Light Silver Cup Classic at Seekonk Speedway.
Seitz made a daring three-wide pass on the third attempted start and lead every lap to become only the second repeat winner in the 11-year history of the event.
Jeremy Frankoski started on the pole but lost it was Jeff Horn who jumped out at the start of the 29-lap event. After a yellow flag and a red flag before a single lap could be completed, the race finally got going with the third start, as Seitz screamed to the inside of Frankoski and Horn for the lead.
Two more caution flags slowed the event, but Seitz was able to get away clean on both restarts as Joey Payne and Nokie Fornoro moved into the top three and began their push for the top spot.
Lapped traffic started to become a factor in the closing laps as Payne and Fornoro began to close in, but Seitz patiently worked his way through and held on over the final nine laps for the repeat victory.
The finish:
