Midget Hall To Induct 4 Drivers

National Midget Hall of Fame

TULSA, Okla. — Four drivers have been elected to the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame and will be enshrined at the annual induction ceremonies scheduled Jan. 16 as part of the pre-race buildup to the Chili Bowl Nationals at the Tulsa Expo Raceway.
Jeff Gordon, Dave Humphrey and the late Ted Tappett and Kevin Doty are the newest members of the Hall of Fame. The quartet received the most votes in recent balloting and will have a distinctive place of honor in the Hall of Fame display located at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.
Tappett (aka Phil Walters) won more than 100 midget feature victories along the East Coast and was a two-time winner in the 12 Hours of Sebring. Doty was a BMARA champion and also won the 2005 Pepsi Nationals before being killed in a crash at Angell Park later that year.
Humphrey is a six-time NEMA champion, wining five-straight titles from 1967-71. Before going on to become a four-time Sprint Cup champion, Gordon scored a dozen USAC National Midget victories and twice won the Night Before the 500 in Indianapolis as well as collecting a victory at the Belleville Midget Nationals and other major triumphs.
