Victory Hands Loyet POWRi Title

MILLSTADT, Ill. — Brad Loyet locked up his first O’Reilly POWRi National Midget Championship and first major midget championship overall on Saturday night, winning the “Charlene Meents Memorial” at Belle-Claire Speedway.
Loyet blasted past Thomas Messeraull for the final time on lap 15 of the 30-lap feature and cruised to his fifth victory of the season to lock up the season title.
Loyet, who led twice for 20 laps, led the opening four laps after inheriting the lead when polesitter Derek Hager flipped on the backstretch. Thomas Messeraull took over on lap five and led the next 10 circuits before Loyet returned to the point and ran away from the field. Messeraull took home the runner-up honors over Mike Hess, Hunter Schuerenberg and Steve Knepper.

PONTOON BEACH, Ill. — Jerry Coons, Jr. closed out the 2007 O’Reilly POWRi Midget season with a victory in Sunday’s “Bob Wente Classic” at Tri-City Speedway.
Coons led the final 20 laps of the 25-lap feature, passing polesitter Tim Siner on lap six and never looking back on his way to capturing his first POWRi victory of the season.
Newly crowned series champion Brad Loyet flipped in turn four while running second with three laps to go, collecting the third-place car of Russ Harper. Siner took over the second spot and held on to secure the runner-up spot over Zach Daum. Hunter Schuerenberg and Kenny Biro rounded out the top five.
