No. 5, No. 70 Teams Penalized

The No. 5 of Kyle Busch and the No. 70 of Johnny Sauter both failed post-race inspection at New Hampshire.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NASCAR issued penalties and fines to the No. 5 and No. 70 Nextel Cup Series teams as a result of rule infractions found this past weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, N.H.
During post-race inspection Sunday, both cars were found to have used unapproved parts and did not meet post-race height requirements.
As a result, Kyle Busch and Sauter have each been penalized 25 driver championship points. Their respective crew chiefs — Alan Gustafson and Robert “Bootie” Barker — were each fined $25,000 and placed on probation until Sept. 19. With the penalty, Busch falls to tenth in the Nextel Cup driver standings, behind Martin Truex, Jr., who was tenth.
In addition, Rick Hendrick, owner of the No. 5, was penalized 25 car owner championship points as was Joe Custer, owner of the No. 70.
