CONCORD, N.C. — Looks like Dale will race the truck after all.
Prior to the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup All Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 17, which is to be Dale Jarrett’s final Sprint Cup appearance, the veteran driver will make a lap around the 1.5-mile track in the UPS delivery truck. Fans will be able to register to win the chance to ride along with Jarrett on that lap.
Also unveiled at Wednesday’s press conference was the paint scheme for his No. 44 UPS-sponsored Toyota Camry as well as plans to induct Jarrett along with his father, Ned Jarrett, the 1963 and 1965 NASCAR Cup champion, into the LMS Court of Legends on May 13.
“It’s perfect here. This is where it should happen,” Jarrett said of running his final competitive Cup race. “I will have a lot of family and friends who can come here and the All Star race is about the fans. This race was basically done for the fans and for UPS. I appreciate everything that Lowe’s Motor Speedway is doing to make this a very special night.”
The special paint scheme for the No. 44 Camry carries the familiar brown and yellow UPS colors, but pays homage to the paint scheme sported by Jarrett’s UPS-sponsored No. 88 of Yates Racing. A closer look reveals celebratory photos from Jarrett’s career, including Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600 and Brickyard 400 triumphs, blended into the scheme.
Lowe’s Motor Speedway officials also announced “DJ’s Deal,” a $44 All Star weekend ticket package on sale at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com. Purchasers of “DJ’s Deal” will also be registered for the pre-race ride-along drawing. The winner will be announced May 13.
