ALTAMAHAW, N.C. — If the first two races are any indication, defending NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion L.W. Miller is going to be the man to beat once again this season.
On Friday night at Ace Speedway, Miller scored his second triumph in as many races in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 presented by DMC Auto Exchange. Miller led twice for 151 laps and beat second-place finisher Ronnie Silk to the checkered flag by .315 seconds.
The race was extended to 158 laps due to a lap-149 caution and ended with a green-white-checkered finish.
“Tonight was just awesome,” said Miller who won the Coors Light Pole Award in time trials. “I told everybody before the season started that I wanted to win as many races as possible this year, and we won at Caraway to start the year off and here we are in Victory Lane at Ace. I had a car tonight where there just wasn’t any looking back. We’ve won two times this year in two different cars.
“This is a special car for me because I won at Martinsville in it a few years ago. One of my best friends, Tony Marciel, at the time was also my crew chief. (He) helped me build this car, so this means a whole lot to me.”
Rounding out the top five behind Miller and Silk were Burt Myers, Jason Myers and Jay Foley.
Two-time champion Junior Miller did not run in the event after unapproved parts were discovered on his car prior to qualifying, and he opted to load up his car and leave the track.
The finish:
L.W. Miller, Ronnie Silk, Burt Myers, Jason Myers, Jay Foley, Brian King, Tim Brown, Scott Rigney, Frank Fleming, Gene Pack, Brian Pack, Jay Mize, Rich Kuiken, Jr., Brandon Hire, George Brunnhoelzl, Johnathon Brown, Brian Loftin, Bobby Hutchens, John Smith, Buddy Emory, Andy Seuss.

Loftin took the lead for the final time with 10 laps remaining and won by .345 seconds over Andy Seuss.
Loftin has five of his seven career victories at Caraway and has won three of the last four events at the .455-mile track.
He finished 17th in Friday night’s race at Ace Speedway.
“I wanted to hang my head down after last night, but all the guys on the team wouldn’t let me and I have to thank them for that,” Loftin said. “I just hope things keep getting better from here. I just have to thank Andy Seuss for racing me as clean as he did.”
Seuss started second and led a race-high 137 laps.
Rounding out the top-five were Frank Fleming, George Brunnhoelzl and Burt Myers.
