Loftin’s Emotional Score KOs Miller’s Streak

NASCAR Modifieds

ASHEBORO, N.C. — NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver Brian Loftin did something Saturday night that no other driver has been able to do the last five races at Caraway Speedway — beat L.W. Miller.
Loftin dominated the Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 to score his first career Whelen Southern Modified Tour victory, ending a five-race winning streak for Miller, who leads the standings.
Loftin’s win came in front of an emotional group of friends and family that included his tearful wife, Melissa.
“This is a long time coming and this team has worked hard to get to this point,” said Loftin. “We came to win the pole and the race tonight and we pulled off both of those goals. It’s been a while since we won a race and I was starting to wonder if we were ever going to be able to do it again.”
Frank Fleming outdueled Tim Brown to finish second, while Jason Myers and Miller rounded out the top five.
If Miller finishes ninth or better in the season finale at Caraway Oct. 6, he will secure the title.
The finish:
Brian Loftin, Frank Fleming, Tim Brown, Jason Myers, L.W. Miller, John Smith, Brian King, Brandon Hire, Gene Pack, Junior Miller, Zach Brewer, Burt Myers, Thomas Stinson, Brian Pack, Jay Foley, Earl Baker, Johnny Sutton, Dean Ward, Wesley Swartout, George Brunnhoelzl, Jay Mize.
