Believe It Or Not: Ripley Comes Through In Orlando Winternationals

Orlando (Fla.) Speedworld

Thursday

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Winternationals got under way Thursday night at Orlando Speedworld, with Jeff Ripley topping the open-wheel lite feature.
Ripley took the lead from the outset and was never headed in beating Billy Gise to the checkered flag. Max Howe, John Bailey and Roger Richmond rounded out the top five.
Devin McLeod captured the Florida Mini Cup Racing Ass’n feature, with Stephen Hershey and Corey White following.
Doug Hopper won the outlaw modified feature and William Hindman claimed the hurricane feature. Brad Norburg was best in the classic car division.

Friday

ORLANDO, Fla. — Nick Stroupe was the pro challenge winner during the second night of the Winternationals Friday at Orlando Speedworld.
Stroupe ran the event unchallenged after starting from the pole despite being slowed for four caution flags. Brandon Williamson spun following a restart on lap 19, but valiantly charged through the field in the closing laps to finish second.
Brady Marshall was the class of the field in the mini cup ranks. Cliff Steinmann topped the outlaw modified field after overcoming engine troubles on Thursday.  Billy Gise came out on top in the open-wheel lites. Other feature winners of the night were William Hindman in the hurricane division and Brad Norburg in classic car.

Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. — Billy Gise appeared to be on the way to his second-straight open-wheel lite feature victory before spinning just one lap from the finish Saturday night. John Bailey benefited from Gise’s troubles, happily taking the gift-wrapped Winternationals victory on the third night of competition at the half-mile asphalt oval.
Jason Burchard took the victory in the pro challenge event, topping Trevor Cauble. Cliff Steinmann pounced early for the lead and went on to top Billy Campbell in the outlaw modifieds. Brandon Cagle (TQ midgets), Stephen Hershey (mini cup), Ron McCreary (hurricane) and David Nunes (classic car) also snagged wins in their respective divisions.
