Ekström Takes Down Schumi For RoC Crown

LONDON, England — Defending Race of Champions winner Matthias Ekström pulled off the seemingly impossible Sunday, beating the ever-dominant Michael Schumacher in the RoC final at Wembley Stadium to win the Driver’s Cup.
Taking the battle down to the wire, both heavyweights claimed one win each in the best-of-three final before Ekström topped Schumacher in the final race after the seven-time Formula One champion spun his in the final dash to the checkered flag.
British fans cheered on local hero Andy Priaulx as the three-time World Touring Car champion made it to the semi-final round before losing out to Ekström.
Schumacher defeated four-time Champ Car World Series champion Sebastien Bourdais in the semifinal to advance to the final round.
Schumacher and fellow German driver Sebastian Vettel defeated Marcus Grönholm and Heikki Kovalainen of Finland to win the 2007 Race of Champions Nation’s Cup.
On the United States front, NASCAR champion, Jimmie Johnson bowed out in the first round. His teammate, X Games star Travis Pastrana, fell to Ekström one round later.
