VENTURA, Calif. — Ventura Raceway opened its doors for the first weekend of its racing season on Saturday night. The start of the new season promptly ushered in two first-time winners. John Nock made his move midway through the sprint-car event to break into victory lane for the first time in his career, while Cole Wakim won his first mini- dwarf chargers event.
Other event winners were: Richard Denman (IMCA modifieds), Brian Saxton (pro-dwarf cars), Jim Scribellito (senior- dwarf cars), John Butcher (junior midgets) and Ricky Lewis (mini-dwarf superchargers).
