Tommy Cook set a new Baer Field Speedway track record on May 31, making the trip around the half-mile paved oval in 17.589 seconds, but was unable to compete in the Aluminum Racing Products 75 because of a crash during hot laps...Rich Lofthus ended a 15-year winless drought at Rice Lake Speedway with a victory on May 31. Lofthus’s WISSOTA modified feature victory was his first at the track since 1993...Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa, will add IMCA’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division to its weekly race programs beginning in 2009...Pat Cannon scored 358 sprint-car victories at Selinsgrove Speedway on May 30 and at Williams Grove Speedway on May 31...Jeremy Wonderling won back-to-back late-model features May 30 at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, N.Y...On May 16, Nick Brady won the pure-stock feature at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D. Brady is the first-known fourth-generation feature winner in South Dakota...Driving in a 10-lap exhibition for the New England Legends cars on May 31, Terry Kirk posted his first victory at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, since 1975...Two weeks after reaching the 100-victory plateau at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, Wis., Kevin Nuttleman made it 101 late-model wins on May 31... Jack Kalawasinski, son of NSSN  “Chicago Chips” columnist Stan Kalwasinski, earned the first late-model victory of his career May 31 at Illiana Speedway in Indiana. He called the victory the realization of a dream. . . Chuck Arpin, the father and crew chief of modified driver Steve Arpin, suffered a heart attack at Vermilion County (Ill.) Speedway on May 27 and underwent bypass surgery on May 30. At his father’s urging, Steve returned to the track and won the modified feature at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill...Brian Swartzlander captured the 57th victory of his career on May 30 at Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania...No one has been able to beat Dave Bigos at Owosso Speedway in Ovid, Mich. Bigos is perfect at 5-0 in late-model action this season, including a fifth-straight victory on May 31...The 9th-annual Steve Brown Memorial Race has been rescheduled for July 25 at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio. The thunderstocks will take to the track in pursuit of a special 18-lap, $1,000-to-win race.
