Regional Notes - June 18, 2008

It took 13 years and a backup car, but Glenn Keller earned the first feature victory of his career at Williams Grove Speedway on June 7, surviving a last-lap challenge from Bobby Hockenberry. Keller’s primary car had been damaged in a crash at another track, and he was forced to go to a backup car. “I wasn’t sure I was ever going to get here,” Keller said after the win...Eastern Pennsylvania 358-modified star Jeff Strunk has always wanted to test his considerable skills behind the wheel of a super late model. He’ll get his chance at full-fender action on a very big stage — and at one of his hometracks — when the World of Outlaws Late Model Series makes its inaugural visit to Big Diamond Raceway on June 25, for the Jack Rich, Inc. Coal Country 40. Strunk, a 39-year-old from Mohnton, Pa., who is one of the most accomplished 358-modified drivers in the Northeast, will drive a Lazer Chassis car fielded by veteran dirt late-model driver and car builder Jim Bernheisel...Over the course of seven weeks at Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif., this season, Austin Murphy has made his driving debut in three different divisions, each time coming away with a victory. On June 7, Murphy’s super-late-model debut ended in victory lane. His other debut victories came in the late-model division on opening night and in ASA factory fours on May 17. For good measure, younger brother Broc Murphy also won his June 7 ASA factory four debut...Bryan Hessler ended a 22-year winless drought with a June 6 modified victory at Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wis…Doug Horton collected the $1,000 bounty put on dominating driver Paul Wilmoth, Jr., by Tyler County (W. Va.) Speedway’s BDS Promotions. Horton battled with the second-finishing Wilmoth for most of the race…Eugene Dick made it back to victory lane after a four-year absence at I-94 Speedway in Sauk Centre, Minn. Dick won the June 7 40-lap ASA super-late-model feature…Tim Brown has dominated modified qualifying at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., setting quick times for all six events this season.
