Alan Dellinger became the first driver to capture two feature victories (late models and E modifieds) on the same night at Pennsylvania’s Tri-City Speedway since Ed Lynch, driving sprint cars and big-block modifieds, accomplished the feat several times in the 1970s…Black Rock Speedway in Rochester, N.Y. is returning to the area’s cable networks this month with the broadcast of its first sprint-car race of the year. The Empire Super Sprint season opener, which was held April 12 at Black Rock Speedway, will be the first episode of “Hot Wings TV” shown on Time Warner Cable Sportsnet Channel 26 in the greater Rochester area. The 60-minute program features all aspects of the race night, including hot laps, heat races, dash, B-main and the A-main. It will be aired several different times during the month of May…Super DIRTcar competitor Duane Howard set a new track record on May 1 at Virginia Motor Speedway with a time of 18.056 seconds (99.690 miles per hour) around the half-mile oval…Randy Benson’s victory on May 4 at Caraway Speedway was upheld after his crate engine passed a post-race inspection. Benson won the 100-lap late-model stock event…On a cool night, Mount Lawn Speedway saw late model and thundercar track records fall on May 4. The 4-year-old late-model record of 16.595 seconds held by William Mefford was reset three times before Eric Evans set the new mark at 16.511 seconds. In the thundercar division, Kevin Claborn, who was the first to break the old late-model mark, bested his own track record (18.563 seconds) with a new time of 18.399 seconds…Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., is hosting its 49th season of racing…Keith Kauffman, 58, held off 50-year-old Fred Rahmer for a May 2 sprint car victory at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.…On May 2, Brad McClelland won for the second-straight time at Trail-Way Speedway in Hanover, Pa. It was his 12th-career victory…James Friesen captured his first-career DIRTcar sportsman modified feature victory on May 5 at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Weedsport, N.Y....Rick Strong dedicated his May 2 late-model victory at Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown, Pa., to his father, who died just about a month ago.
