88 Hopefuls Enter Le Mans
SARTHE, France — The Automobile Club de l’Ouest has received 88 entry forms from teams hoping to compete in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race June 14-15.
The entries represent a 16-percent increase over 2007, when 76 teams filed entries.
Twenty-one of those 88 teams are already guaranteed spots in the field based on their 2007 results. Thus, 67 teams will be vying for the final 34 spots on the grid of 55. The ACO Selection Committee will release its selection of competitors at the end of February.
There are 26 LMP 1 entries and 15 in the LMP 2 division. Twenty-two teams filed GT1 entries and 25 registered for the GT2 classification.
